The Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials raided Arpita Mukherjee’s Belghoria apartment or 18 hours on Wednesday until this morning.

After questioning her, two apartments in Belghoria were raided earlier on Wednesday. According to reports, Partha Chatterjee allegedly exploited Arpita Mukherjee’s home as a “little bank.”

Another Rs 27.9 crore and Rs 4.3 crore of gold were discovered by the Enforcement Directorate in Arpita Mukherjee’s second residence, a close associate of Bengal minister Partha Mukherjee. She had left the agency with a first-floor apartment worth Rs 21 crore.

The money was counted by agency representatives over the course of ten hours, and they reported that a significant portion was found in the toilet.

The found funds were in the shape of notes with denominations of 2,000 and 500, neatly stacked to create the letters “ED.” The Rs 27.9 crore of cash was bundled into 20 lakh bundles of Rs 500 notes and 50 lakh bundles of Rs 2,000 notes.

The 5 kilogramme of recovered gold was divided into three 1 kg gold bricks, six 500 gm kangans, a gold pen, and other pieces of jewellery.

In the initial raid, the agency seized a total of Rs 23.22 crore in assets, including cash worth Rs 21.90 crore, foreign currency worth Rs 56 lakh, and gold worth Rs 76 lakh.

Her homes are being searched by the investigation team in relation to an alleged scam involving the recruitment of teachers in West Bengal. The amounts found are thought to be the theft’s proceeds.

Mukherjee, however, claimed to the authorities that Partha Chatterjee, a state minister, was the rightful owner of the mountains of cash seized from her residence. She claimed that the funds were invested in her affiliated businesses.

Mukherjee claimed that the raids derailed the plan to shift the money out of her house in a couple of days.

Chatterjee and Mukherjee have both been questioned by the ED until August 3.
