EPFO Announces 8.25% Interest on PF Deposits for FY25
The Government of India has confirmed that Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) deposits will earn an interest rate of 8.25% for the Financial Year 2024-25. The same was approved by the finance ministry and was declared after it was recommended by the Central Board of Trustees (CBT) of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). More than 7 crore EPF subscribers from the public and private sectors will take advantage of this approved rate.
The EPFO has been instructed to start the process of transferring the interest to the members' bank accounts. The new rate is the same as the rate announced in the previous financial year (FY 2023-2024), which is one of the highest returns among the fixed-income investment options available in India. Keeping the same 8.25% interest rate for the 2024-25 financial year shows the strong financial performance of EPFO.
The decision to keep the rate the same at 8.25% was proposed at the 237th meeting of the Central Board of Trustees scheduled in February 2025. After checking the income projections and investment performance of the fund, the board decided to recommend keeping the same rate. This proposal was then sent to the Ministry of Finance for final approval, as per the rules of the EPF Scheme.
EPF is a popular long-term savings option among investors because it offers compound interest benefits, steady returns, and tax-free earnings (within limits set under Section 10(11) of the Income Tax Act).
