Ex-Director of NRHM gets 4 Yrs Imprisonment in Graft Case; PWD’s Ex-Engineer to undergo one year Imprisonment: CBI

Dr. N. Pallai, the former mission director of the National Rural Health Mission in Aizawl, received a four years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 24 lakh, and Mr. Lalsangliana Chhakchhuak, the former executive engineer of PWD, the Government of Mizoram, received a sentence of one year in prison and a fine of Rs. 6 lakh.

CBI had registered a case on 31.01.2014 on the request of the Mizoram Government against the accused on the allegations of misappropriation of Rs.5.74 crore(approx) for upgradation of Civil Hospital, Aizawl(Mizoram).

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Shri Lalsangliana Chhakchhuak, then Executive Engineer, PWD, Mizoram, and Dr. N. Pallai, then Mission Director, National Rural Health Mission, Aizawl, had stolen a total of Rs. 29,48,819/-. Following an investigation, the CBI on September 30, 2015, filed a chargesheet against both defendants in the Court of Special Judge in Aizawl for creating a loss of Rs. 29,48,819/-.

The Trial Court found the said accused guilty and convicted them.
