Ex-EPFO Official gets 3 year Rigorous Imprisonment in Bribery Case:

Former Enforcement Officer for the EPFO Regional Office, Kozhikode, has been sentenced by Special Court Ernakulam (Kerala), to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a punishment of Rs. 50,000.

Shri P. Premakumaran, the former Enforcement Officer for the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), Regional Office, Kozhikode, has been sentenced by the Special Court, CBI Cases, Ernakulam (Kerala), to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a punishment of Rs. 50,000.
According to allegations made by the CBI, the accused demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 50,000/- from the complainant for showing undue favour by reducing the EPF contribution towards the employees of the complainant's firm for the period 2018–2019 from Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 4 lakh, while serving as an enforcement officer in the regional office of the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), Kozhikode (Kerala). When the accused demanded and accepted bribe from the complainant, CBI set a trap and captured him in it.
A chargesheet was submitted against the defendants following an inquiry. The accused was found guilty and sentenced to prison by the Trial Court.
