Govt Authorises Regional Labour Commissioners to Compound Offences Under Social Security Rules, 2026

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has notified that the Central Government has appointed Additional Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) and Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) from distinct regions.

These officials have been granted the authority to compound offences concerning Chapter V and Chapter VI of the Social Security (Central) Rules, 2026, and every official has a different area of jurisdiction.

For instance, the Additional Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) and all Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) in the Office of Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi, have been empowered to exercise their aforesaid authority over all of the country, while all Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) in the Ajmer region are only allowed to exercise their powers over the state of Rajasthan.

The government has taken this move in pursuance of its powers granted under sub-section (1) of section 138 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 (36 of 2020) read with sub-rule (1) of rule 54 of the Social Security (Central) Rules, 2026, and has officially announced the same through a Notification No. S.O. 2447(E), dated May 12, 2026.
