GST Bill Passed In Rajya Sabha finally with Opposition Support
After seven hour debate, Rajya Sabha has finlly passed The Constitution (122nd Amendment) Bill, 2014 pertaining to GST with 203 votes in favour and none against in 243-member House.
Six official amendments, including scrapping of one per cent additional tax, moved by the government were approved with cent per cent votes.
The AIADMK was the only party to oppose the measure and its members a walkout ahead of voting.
This is a very significant day in Indian taxation history. It is the first step in making India a unified market.
As Rajya Sabha has passed Constitution (122nd) Amendment Bill, 2014 enabling levy of GST by Central Government as well as State Governments with 100% in favour of the same.
Now Bill shall go back to Lok Sabha to approve the amendments made by Rajya Sabha.
Thereafter it shall be presented to the Hon'ble President of India for his assent.
