GST Enforcement Wing recovers Rs.2.15 crore in GST Penalties during Crackdown In a noteworthy victory for the current financial year 2024-25, the Enforcement Wing of the State Taxes Department, Jammu, effectively imposed penalties of Rs.2.15 crore in its ongoing crackdown on GST violations involving the transportation of goods in transit. The enforcement operations, led by Sonu Pargal, Deputy Commissioner Enforcement Central, Jammu, focused on high-tax items such as metal waste, cement, granite/marble, TMT bars, and tobacco. This rigorous enforcement campaign was conducted under the supervision of P.K. Bhat, Commissioner of State Taxes, and Namrita Dogra, Additional Commissioner. The strict verification of over 2.30 lakh e-way bills, representing a 60% increase, has led to significantly increased compliance among taxpayers and transporters. During the current financial year, major penalties were imposed on goods such as marble/granite, scrap, furniture, tobacco products, motor vehicles, and TMT bars for violations such as the movement of goods without proper e-way bills or e-invoices, incorrect tax rate declarations, quantity mismatches, and the use of fake GSTINs, among others. The Commissioner of State Taxes praised the Enforcement Central Jammu team for busting the nexus of GST violators in the Jammu district who were regularly breaching GST Act provisions. The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner Manpreet Kour and a team of STOs Romi Jamwal, Naresh Koul, Sudhir Sharma, Sunil Gupta, and Ashwani Kumar, also recognised the honest conduct of compliant dealers and drivers who followed the GST Act of 2017. The Enforcement Wing remains committed to reducing tax evasion and ensuring strong enforcement of GST legislation, with a dual focus on penalising violators and educating stakeholders about compliance requirements. The team's actions demonstrate its dedication to building a culture of accountability, openness, and greater tax revenue, as well as raising consumer and business understanding of the GST Act. The Enforcement Wing of Jammu's proactive approach is critical to maintaining the integrity of the tax system and guaranteeing regulatory compliance.
