GST Evasion Crackdown; State Taxes Dept detect Violations of Rs. 10 lakh in Anantnag
The Commissioner of State Taxes, Dr Rashmi Singh, ordered flying squads across Jammu and Kashmir to combat GST evasion.
The first drive in this respect was carried out today in District Anantnag in response to certain information from the field formations, and it was a collaborative effort by the field formations and the flying squad commanded by Assistant Commissioner Er. Sarib Sahran and his inspectors and staff.
The collaborative investigation was also conducted in locations where certain unregistered traders had been detected, and SDM Bijbehara, Tanvir Ahmad Tanvir, led the drive alongside state tax officers Hamid Ganaie and Amir Nath.
He also informed the traders about the need for GST registration and the multiple perks that come with it. As a result, the revenue department of Jammu and Kashmir also contributed to this initiative.
During the drive, over three dozen dealers from various sectors, such as medicine, furniture, textiles, hardware, brass, footwear, SSI units, and so on, were inspected along with jurisdictional officers. Shahnanwaz Shah, DC Enforcement South, also provided advice to the team.
During the drive, on-the-spot violations with penalties totalling more than Rs.10 lakh were discovered, and the STOs in charge will issue the necessary documentation. The operation targeted both unregistered and registered dealers who violated the GST Act and its provisions.
Data such as QR codes, bank accounts, electric bills, estimated turnover, invoice malpractices, and so on were collected and forwarded to jurisdictional officers for strict action. This drive covered the districts of Bijbehara, Anantnag, and Qazigund.
Afterwards, the flying squad visited certain random unregistered traders as well as certain registered traders in Bijbehara town and Anantnag area and then went to Qazigund area to check on unregistered persons and specific inputs of irregularities were checked by the concerned jurisdiction officers. The flying squad observed the actions of the jurisdiction officers and considered them to be professional.
After returning to Srinagar, the team’s actions were properly documented and submitted to the Commissioner for additional action as permitted by law. It is generally known that in recent weeks, the Department has increased its enforcement activities under the guidance of Senior Officers, and the unusual formation of flying squads was done under these persistent efforts.
Today’s practice was carried out in District Anantnag in this endeavour, and these exercises will continue whenever particular inputs are received, the flying squads will quickly arrive on the scene and aid the operations of the jurisdiction authorities over the specific inputs.
Taxpayers are consequently recommended to adhere to all GST laws, rules, and regulations to contribute to the nation’s economy and growth.
