GST Evasion: Rs. 1.86 lakh fine slapped on Dealer
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials imposed a fine of Rs. 1.86 lakh on a dealer based in Kerala for a consignment of plastic covers that was detained at Premier Junction near Kalamassery on suspicion of tax evasion on Thursday night.
On Thursday night, the truck was seized on suspicion of tax evasion while transporting goods from Maharashtra to Muvattupuzha.
The delivery contained both taxed and untaxed goods, and the GST officials levied a fine on the item which was brought without paying tax.
Though the GST authorities stated that they had passed over the package to the Kalamassery health authority for further inspection, the latter denied any knowledge of it.
"Forget about handing over the cargo; they haven't even informed us." We got to know about it through the media. According to health wing sources, the truck has already been released.
The Kalamassery police department also stated that they had nothing to do with it because it was the responsibility of the GST officials.
