GST Levied on Registered post and courier services
Goods and Services Tax (GST) has been imposed on registered post and courier services, starting on November 1, 2023.
A GST rate of 18% is imposed on these services, in which 9% Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and 9 % State Goods and Services Tax (SGST), and the shares are equally distributed between the central and state governments.
Earlier, GST had been imposed on Speed Post services.
After the new rule, a registered post (weighing up to 20 grams) will now cost Rs. 26, earlier it was valued at Rs. 22.
Earlier, one would spend Rs. 25 for sending acknowledgment cards, but now it will cost you Rs. 30. Registered posts (weighing up to 40 grams) will now cost Rs. 32 instead of Rs. 27. Similarly, postages (weighing up to 60 grams), which were earlier priced at 32, will now cost Rs. 38.
Among other postages, taxes have been implemented across 27 departments, encompassing book packets, post boxes, registered newspapers, service money orders, and unregistered parcels.
Therefore, the charges for all the above services will increase accordingly.
