GST Scam: Noida police attaches Assets worth Rs.5 Crore of two Delhi-based suspects in Rs.10000 Crore GST Fraud

The Noida Police attached immovable properties worth Rs.5 crore belonging to two Delhi-based suspects as part of their investigation into the GST scam, officials said.

In June 2023, the Noida Police caught a gang involved in what is now known as the “GST scam,” unearthing more than 3,077 bogus firms on whose behalf input tax credit was fraudulently claimed.

Police investigations revealed transactions of over Rs.10,000 crore from these bogus firms and more than two dozen persons have been arrested in the case, according to authorities involved in the inquiry.

“Immovable assets worth Rs.5 crore were attached in accordance with a court order in Gautam Buddh Nagar issued under CrPC section 83. These assets belonged to defendants Arjit Goyal and Rohit Nagpal, both of who lived in Delhi’s Rohini region.” a police spokesperson said.

Section 83 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) allows for the attachment of an absconding person’s property.

An FIR in connection with the matter was filed at the Sector 20 police station here last year under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 467, 468, 471 (all connected to forgery), and 120B (party to criminal conspiracy), the officer added.

The matter arose after thugs falsely used a journalist’s PAN details to create two fictitious companies — one in Punjab and one in Maharashtra — while a third in Delhi was rejected by the GST officials.
