GST Superintendent and Computer Operator arrested in Bribery Case in Meerut On May 07, 2026, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a Superintendent employed in the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Office, Range-l, Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), along with a Computer Operator working in the same office, in connection with a bribery case.

A case was registered against the accused Computer Operator on May 06, 2026, who was alleged to have demanded illicit gratification amounting to Rs 6,000 on behalf of the other accused, CGST Superintendent. As per CBI, the money was allegedly sought to help revoke a Show Cause Notice (SCN) that had been issued to the complainant.

Subsequent to the complaint registered, the CBI planned a trap operation on May 07, 2026, to catch the accused Computer Operator (intermediary) red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribery amount on behalf of the CGST Superintendent. The trap successfully worked, and the intermediary got arrested along with the CGST Superintendent. Officials said further investigation into the case is currently underway. The CBI has disclosed the aforementioned action via a Press Release dated May 07, 2026.
