Hathras GST Raid Sparks Uproar

A Central GST team raided an iron trader’s shop in Hathras’s Khati Khana Market around 1 pm on Thursday. The raid led to a dispute between the trader and the GST officials. Soon, several traders gathered at the spot, leading to a commotion. There were also reports of a heated argument and a scuffle between the traders and the team.
Iron trader Subodh Agarwal, also known as Dabbu Lohiya, alleged that the GST team arrived in three vehicles but did not identify themselves. He claimed that the officials assaulted his employees and took away their mobile phones. He also alleged that he was manhandled and his documents were seized.
According to Agarwal, he asked the team to show a search warrant, but the officials initially refused. He claimed that when the warrant was shown about half an hour later, it was not in the name of his firm. This led to further protests, with other traders joining the dispute.
Local police and trade union officials reached the market after receiving information about the incident. Some people tried to calm both sides and bring the situation under control. Meanwhile, traders raised slogans and said they would not tolerate harassment.
GST officials, however, denied the allegations made by the traders.
