Exam models for Classes 11 and 12 were significantly altered earlier by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in order to better serve the ever-increasing demands of the educational field and better prepare students for the modern world. Exam patterns for the CBSE will change starting in 2025. These changes will affect everything from question structure to marking scheme, with the goal of encouraging students’ critical thinking and holistic growth.

One significant shift is the reduction in weight from 100% to 80% of final exam scores. The remaining 20% of the marks will be determined by project work, practical tests, and evaluations.

These kinds of adjustments are made in an effort to establish an ecosystem that emphasizes skill-based application of classroom contents over memorization. In order to tackle new difficulties, this will help pupils enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

The proportion of case-based, source-based, and competency-based questions in the form of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) has increased from 40 to 50%, while the proportion of constructed answer questions with both long and short answers has decreased from 40 to 30%.

Students may be significantly impacted by modifications to the CBSE  Exam pattern. As competency-based questions become more prevalent, students will be able to apply practical skills to their everyday learning and improve their comprehension of the topics covered in class, which will help them conceptualize the material in greater depth. One’s study habits and perspective may need to shift in order to become proficient with application-based questions and adjust to the new evaluation methodologies.

Instead of relying solely on last-minute study sessions, the increased emphasis on internal assessments in the CBSE exams may necessitate steady work throughout the academic year. Teachers and schools must get ready for the new CBSE test pattern in order for it to be implemented successfully. In order to help instructors acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to adjust to the widespread changes, teacher training programs are essential. To make the assessment processes in schools reliable and efficient, an internalized action must be promoted.
