How to get an instant E- PAN from Income Tax Department Individual taxpayers who have not been assigned a permanent account number can use the income tax department's e-PAN service (PAN). The sole need is that the person has an Aadhaar number and a mobile number that is linked to the Aadhaar.

Prerequisites

A valid Aadhaar and a mobile number connected to Aadhaar are the two most important requirements, as previously indicated. In addition, as per Section 160 of the Income Tax Act, the applicant must not be a minor or a representative assessee.

Process

Individuals must go to the IT e-filing portal at https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/ and select "Instant e-PAN" under the heading "Quick Services" from the drop-down menu. Click the "Get New e-PAN" button on the e-PAN page. After that, you must enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. An authentication code is provided to the registered mobile number after submission. The individual's details, such as photo, address, date of birth, address, and gender, are displayed when this is submitted, and this must be validated. The application is successfully submitted once confirmation is received, and an acknowledgment number is generated for future reference.

Cost

This is a free service; there are no fees associated with obtaining an e-PAN.

Point to note

  • A physical PAN card issued using the regular PAN application procedure has the same value as an e-PAN.
  • After receiving an e-PAN, the individual can open an income tax e-filing account using the e-KYC information.
