The Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI) has formed a committee to promote work-life balance among its members, President Charanjot Singh Nanda announced on Wednesday. In the midst of an ongoing controversy over proposals from certain sectors to work longer hours, he highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

ICAI established by an Act of Parliament, has more than four lakh members and over ten lakh students. “We are very keen that everyone associated with us, including students and employees, has a healthy work-life balance,” Nanda said at a briefing in the national capital.

He stated that work-life balance will be promoted throughout the ICAI’s many branches.

Following the death of a chartered accountant due to alleged job pressure, the ICAI announced in September last year the formation of a special panel to recommend further stress management measures. It has also set up a counselling help desk.

At the time, the institute announced that it would create peer support networks where members may share their experiences, seek advice, and collaborate to address stress management difficulties.
