The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in a press release stated that it stands committed to the well-being of Chartered Accountants and also formed a group to address work-life balance and stress management.

In light of recent incidents highlighting the awful consequences of excessive work pressures faced by professionals, including Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) states its commitment to addressing the urgent need for work-life balance and stress management within the profession. The increasing demands placed on professionals in all industries have created widespread worries about the negative consequences of high-pressure situations on personal health and professional productivity.

To address the growing concerns about work-life pressures, the ICAI has organized a specialized committee led by Mrs. Seema Gerotra, Additional Director on Work-Life Balance and Stress Management, to implement initiatives targeted at enhancing work-life balance and controlling stress in the profession.

Addressing this vital matter, CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President of ICAI, highlights the significance of employee well-being for international companies and organizations.

He stated, “Employees are the foundation of any firm, and their well-being is essential to its long-term success. We strongly encourage organisations to develop balanced work rules that improve employee health and minimize stress. Organizations may build a more productive, resilient, and innovative workplace by putting their employees’ mental and physical well-being first.”

ICAI has long acknowledged the challenges of stressful workplaces and has proactively established a variety of measures to improve the well-being of its employees and students. The Institute has hosted a variety of health and wellness events, such as health awareness camps, stress management webinars, yoga sessions, motivational conferences, walkathons, and marathons, all of which aim to promote mental and physical fitness. ICAI remains committed to Chartered Accountants‘ overall well-being, both professionally and emotionally. A Grievance Redressal Cell is already in place to address issues raised by members, students, and staff, and efforts are underway to improve the system to provide more structured and sympathetic solutions.

In addition to the above, ICAI has introduced further initiatives to promote a healthy work environment for its members and employees.

Work-Life Balance Awareness Programs and Mental and Physical Wellness Campaigns: ICAI will continue to hold monthly workshops, webinars, and awareness campaigns to promote physical activity, mindfulness, and emotional well-being, with a focus on balancing professional responsibilities while keeping a healthy personal life.

Comprehensive Stress Management Initiatives: In conjunction with health institutions, the ICAI will launch stress management programs for members and students, including counselling and mental health support.

Collaboration with Industry: ICAI will collaborate with industry partners to promote flexible work models such as remote work, flexible hours, and wellness initiatives, allowing members to manage their professional and personal obligations.

Peer Support Networks: ICAI will provide peer support networks where members may share their experiences, get advice, and work together to overcome stress management concerns.

Special Counselling Helpline: ICAI intends to establish a counselling help desk within its National Call Centre (9997599975) to assist members with stress management and work-life balance issues.

Addressing work-life balance is an ongoing endeavour that demands sustained focus and collaboration. ICAI is committed to fostering a supportive professional environment that prioritizes the health and well-being of its members and employees, ensuring they thrive both personally and professionally.
