ICSI developing future-ready Global Professionals
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) reached another milestone with the practice side of the profession completing 35 years of the recognition accorded to it.
It was in the year 1988 that Practising Company Secretaries (PCS) were authorized to certify Annual Returns under the Companies Act 1956. The journey since has been more than overwhelming.
Today, Company Secretaries in Practise have been assigned onerous tasks and many recognitions under various statutes in the country. The ICSI has gone to great lengths to ensure that the profession is properly recognised, both inside and outside of the nation.
As a statutory body, responsible for regulating and developing the profession of Company Secretary (CS) in India, the ICSI has aligned its aspirations with its Mission and Vision.
In reality, it has been making active efforts to build Good Corporate Governance across the world, as well as producing qualified individuals who can direct enterprises towards sustainability while adhering to compliance.
The Institute's worldwide journey began with its collaboration with International Governance Bodies to assist in the development of robust governance frameworks all over the world.
It further carved out a niche for itself, as the only Governance Institute to have developed Secretarial Standards in the world, which have been adopted by the Malaysian Association of Company Secretaries (MACS), for benchmarking its own Standards.
With the largest membership and student base of Company Secretaries, the Institute has taken a step forward to get the Profession and Qualification its due accreditation in countries where India is set to sign bilateral agreements, such as the UAE, where ICSI also has its first Overseas Centre.
At 55, the ICSI is standing tall today, imbibing in its members, the values ingrained in its motto Satyam Vada Dharmam Chara, i.e. Speak the truth and abide by the law, to create the global professionals of tomorrow.
