ICSI issue Clarification on Extension of Last Date for Obtaining Mandatory CPE Credits
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) clarifies regarding obtaining the mandatory CPE credits.
This is a follow-up to the communication dated March 26, 2022 on a three-month extension of the deadline for obtaining necessary CPE Credits for the fiscal year 2021-22, i.e. until June 30, 2022.
Members have asked the Institute if CPE Credits earned during the extended period (April 1, 2022 to June 30, 2022) will be counted for the years 2021-22 or 2022-23.
In this regard, it is clarified that CPE credits earned by a member during the extension period (April 1, 2022 to June 30, 2022) will only be considered for the year 2021-22 if the mandatory requirement of obtaining 20 CPE credits per year through structured and unstructured learning programmes is not met. However, once the member has completed the required 20 CPE Credits for the year 2021-22, any additional CPE Credits earned will be considered for the year 2022-23.
Furthermore, no CPE Credits can be broken up; for example, if a member earns 4 CPE Credits in a programme but only needs 2 CPE Credits to meet the mandatory requirement of 20 CPE Credits for the year 2021-22, the extra 2 CPE Credits will not be carried forward to the following year 2022-23, and all 4 CPE credits will be considered for the year 2021-22 only.
Members who earned the requisite 20 CPE Credits for the year 2021-22 on or before March 31, 2022 will be considered for the year 2022-23. Members who earned CPE Credits on or after April 1, 2022 will be considered for the year 2022-23.
