IGNOU Launches Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health (PGDMH); Admission Held Twice a Year

Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health (PGDMH): The Discipline of Psychology, School of Social Sciences (SOSS) of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has now introduced the Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health (PGDMH).

The candidates who have master’s degrees in psychology, social work, or nursing and also who have bachelor’s degrees in dental surgery and medical graduates from various fields such as allopathy, ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, homoeopathy, yoga, and naturopathy, are eligible to apply for this program. The candidates eligible for this program can take admission into it twice a year, first in January and second in July. As per the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the whole program will be taught only in the English language. A fee of Rs.9000 as course fees is compulsory to be paid by the candidates who want to take part in this program in addition to Rs.300 as registration fee.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers this program in various study and regional centres in India like Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Ranchi, Nagpur, Noida, Jabalpur, Varanasi, and Patna. The duration decided for the Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health (PGDMH) is a period of one year. “The objective of the programme is to build capacity through spreading of awareness and training of personnel working in the field to take care of the pressing need of the society addressing the mental health and well-being of the people,” said the programme coordinator Dr. Swati Patra, she further said this program helps to address the mental health requirements of people in view of the shortage of trained mental health personnel in India.

This program is designed in a way to provide its candidates with deep learning about psychological issues and concerns. This program focuses on how to build and train professionals in both mental as well as physical healthcare so that community needs can be met. The aim of PGDMH is to make its learners aware of the growing need for mental health services and focus on fulfilling the urgent need for mental health professionals in India.

Below are the steps to register for the Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health (PGDMH)

  • Step 1: Visit the official website i.e., @ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
  • Step 2: Complete your registration process and create your username and password.
  • Step 3: Now, Re-login with the help of your username and password.
  • Step 4: Fill in the admission form online. Upload a recent passport-size photo (max 100KB, JPG format), signature (max 100KB, JPG format) and other documents asked.
  • Step 5: Click ‘Declaration’ and read and agree to the instructions and declarations.
  • Step 6: Pay the respected course fee of Rs 9000 and registration fee of Rs 300 using a credit/debit card or net banking.
  • Step 7: Click the button ‘Next’ to preview the form.
  • Step 8: Submit the final form.
