IIT Roorkee Issued Statement Saying “All food served was safe and hygienic” When Videos of Rats in Mess Food Circulated
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has issued a statement responding to the videos shared on social media showing the rats in the utensils used to make the Radha-Krishna Mess food. The video has caused the video to spread criticism among people.
Students of IIT Roorkee commented that the mess was not maintained under proper hygiene standards. Students of IIT Roorkee were caught saying that on many occasions institute has prepared food ignoring the hygiene conditions. Many times stuff such as plastic pieces, wire bits, flies, and more have been found in food items.
A statement was issued by the IIT Roorkee on October 18, 2024, clarifying the incident that the rats showed in the video were in "a closed area of the mess where only empty utensils and non-edible items were stored."
The IIT Roorkee has confirmed that no food item in the mess was contaminated. The statement says, "The video circulating on social media was taken by students who entered the mess late at night."
The institute has committed that “All food served was safe & hygienic”. The statement further said, "The mess has been thoroughly inspected, and it has been confirmed that all food served was safe and hygienic,"
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has said that a committee has been set up to investigate about the incident. Detailed enquire will be conducted.
The statement says, "A thorough review of the situation is underway to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and safety are maintained."
