Income Tax Department Seized Rs.1 Crore hidden in Mango Tree; Karnataka Congress leader's brother came under IT scanner ahead of polls
This saying got true today, Does money grow on trees? Money has been found to be growing on trees and a crore rupees travelling on an autorickshaw in poll-bound Karnataka.
The Income tax department seized one crore rupees from Subramania Rai's house in Mysore, Karnataka. Rai is the brother of Congress candidate Ashok Kumar Rai from Puttur.
The money was discovered in a box placed on a mango tree by officials on Wednesday. Over the last few weeks, the I-T department has conducted a series of raids in poll-bound Karnataka.
The Bengaluru Police arrested two individuals in possession of Rs.1 crore in unaccounted for cash. On April 13, a car near the City Market area was recovered.
Since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in effect in Karnataka, moving large sums of cash without proper documentation is prohibited.
Last month, I-T teams raided the Hubballi office of private real estate developer Ankita Builders and its owner Narayan Acharya's home.
The move occurred a day after the Income Tax Department raided two residences of former Congress leader Gangadhar Gowda and an educational institution in Dakshina Kannada's Belthangady. Ranjan Gowda, Gangadhar Gowda's son, owns the educational school.
In 2018, Gowda left the BJP to join the Congress. He just declared his resignation from politics after being denied a ticket for the Karnataka Assembly elections.
Karnataka goes to the elections on May 10, and the results will be released on May 13.
