Income Tax Dept Invites Applications for handling tax-related matters: Know How to Apply

The Income Tax Department, Karnataka and Goa Region, has recently released an advertisement to hire young professionals under the Young Professional Scheme of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Under this scheme, qualified graduates in law and accountancy are hired on a contractual basis to help the officials in handling tax-related matters at the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT). These professionals will also be required to analyse the critical areas of tax litigation for effective management.

Key Details of Vacancy

  • Total Vacancies: There are a total of 3 vacancies available for this post.
  • Required Age: The candidate’s age should not be more than 35 years as of the date of the advertisement, i.e., 30/12/2025.
  • Work Duration: The work duration will be for a period of one year, and it is a full-time job. As per the advertisement, this duration can be extended by another year based on the performance of the candidate.
  • Number of Paid Leaves: The young professionals will be given 8 days’ leave in the calendar year.

Educational Qualification

Here is the Essential Qualification required for this post:

  • To be eligible for this post, the candidates must be an Indian National having a Graduate or Post Graduate Degree in Law from recognised Universities or must be a qualified Chartered Accountant.
  • Candidates should have secured at least 50% marks in their 3 Year LLB or 5 Year integrated LLB degree programme, or a postgraduate degree programme, or be a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Here are the Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to Chartered Accountants with articleship experience in taxation and to law graduates or postgraduates who have worked on research work or projects in taxation.
  • Also, the candidates with good communication skills, interpersonal skills, and IT knowledge will be preferred.

Job Responsibilities

The Young Professionals will be attached to the offices of Income Tax (Departmental Representatives) or Senior Departmental Representatives at the ITAT. The Young Professionals will be required to:

  • Study the paper books of tax cases.
  • Analyse the judgements cited by the assessee.
  • Look for judgments ruling in favour of the department.
  • Identify distinguishing facts,
  • Prepare briefing notes and written submissions.

They will also be required to carry out legal and tax research work as given by their senior mentors.

Selection Process

The selection process will be conducted in two stages:

  • Screening: First, the applications will be screened.
  • Interview: Shortlisted candidates will then be called for a personal interview.

The selected candidates will be informed about the interview through their registered email ID.

Important Note: The advertisement clearly mentions that the tax authorities will not provide travelling or daily allowance for attending the interview.
