Income Tax E-Filing Portal Gets New Feature: Track Your Return Status in Real Time
The Income Tax Department has introduced a new feature on its e-filing portal. As per this new change in the Income Tax Portal, taxpayers can now check the online status of their income tax returns after completing the filing. Now the Income Tax portal will display when and at what time the Assessing Officer (AO) or the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) analysed your returns.
This new feature has been introduced to enhance the transparency and accountability of tax officials and reinforce confidence in taxpayers. With this feature, taxpayers who have filed their returns will be able to keep an eye on the progress of their returns at the e-filing portal, as they will be able to see when the relevant assessing officer checks their returns.
This new feature in the e-filing portal has been launched keeping in mind the privacy of taxpayers. Only the taxpayer who has filed the form will be able to monitor their return’s progress, and no other taxpayer will be able to see his/her activities or return’s status at the portal.
Benefits of New Feature
The new Income Tax Act will start from the next financial year, 2026-27. Details about the new rules will be shared by December 31. The Ministry is working quickly to finalise everything.
A senior government official said the new tax system will have about 400 rules instead of over 500 in the current one. The goal of the new law is to make tax filing easier and improve how the system is managed. The ministry will announce the new tax rules by December 31.
