Income Tax Raid in headquarters of Xiaomi, Oppo, and OnePlus, in India
According to reports, the Income Tax Department raided and searched the offices of Oppo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Dixon, and Rising Star India today. Oppo's distribution partners were also raided.
Raids were carried out at 15 Oppo, OnePlus, and Xiaomi locations in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, according to an Economic Times article. The searches were carried out based on intelligence reports of hidden income and tax avoidance.
The raids on Oppo's distribution partners began on Tuesday, according to the article.
"Search activities on these organisations are being carried out by various directorates," an official acquainted with the situation told ET.
Authorities are apparently searching the homes of senior executives from these companies in addition to their offices.
Similar searches on these companies' offices were recently performed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and one of Oppo's distribution partners in Hyderabad was sanctioned. "The ED in Hyderabad recently fined Oppo's Chinese distribution partner hundreds of crores," a source familiar with the case said.
"As a long-term investor in India, we value and follow the law of the land. In a statement to Business Insider India, Oppo added, "We will continue to fully comply with the authorities concerned as per protocol."
"As a responsible firm, we place a high priority on ensuring that we follow all Indian laws. We are completely engaging with authorities in India as an invested partner to ensure they have all of the necessary information "Xiaomi told Business Insider India in a statement.
Further investigation is under process.
