Income Tax Raids 25 Pothys Premises Across Tamil Nadu Over Tax Evasion Allegations
An income tax investigator recently carried out searches in almost 25 places connected to Pothys textiles in Coimbatore, Chennai and Madurai. Pothys is a well-known, family-owned Indian textile and retail company based in Tamil Nadu, famous for its extensive collection of high-quality ethnic wear, especially its renowned silk sarees.
The investigation was carried out after getting reliable information about large-scale tax evasion by a big textile retail chain. The company is also involved in the Jewellery business and has outlets in Kerala. Around 7 a.m. over 200 Income Tax officials, along with CRPF personnel, reached the premises to begin the search.
Searches were carried out at the Raja Annamalaipuram residence of Pothys Textiles Ramesh Moopanar in Chennai, as seven sleuths arrived in two vehicles at 7.30 am.
Pothys showroom in T Nagar is also being investigated, while some other retail outlets were partially brought under their control for investigations.
