IT Department conducts raids at SP leader Azam Khan’s premises
The income tax department raided premises associated with Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan in several cities on Wednesday morning, including Lucknow, Rampur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, and Sitapur.
Searches were also conducted on the premises of Samajwadi Party leader Nasir Khan, who is said to be close to Khan. Khan has not yet responded to the raids, which are the latest in a series of federal actions taken against him since 2014.
According to reports, neither Azam Khan nor his family members were present when the raids were carried out.
Income tax officials are remaining tight-lipped about the matter, but it has been learned that the raids are related to Khan's Al Jauhar Trust. For the first time in more than four decades, neither Khan nor any of his family members represent Rampur as a Member of Parliament or as a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
Khan and his son Abdullah Azam were both removed from the Uttar Pradesh assembly after being convicted in separate cases by MP/MLA courts.
