ITR Filing: Income Tax Return Deadline Extension for AY 2022-23; Latest Updates

The ITR filing Deadline for the Financial Year 2021-22 (Assessment Year 2022–2023) for a Non-Audit case is July 31, 2022.

Considering the difficulties in filing taxes and the glitches in the online portal, Various Associations like Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Maharashtra Tax Practitioner’s Association, Punjab Accountants Association, BJP Professional Cell, Sales Tax Bar Association, DTPA, Gujarat Federation of Tax Consultants, Income Tax Bar Association, AIFTP, Howrah Tax Bar Association and Income Tax Practitioner Association had submitted the representation to Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to extend the due date for filing income tax returns for non-audit and audit taxpayers.

Even Social media users had expressed their dissatisfaction with the e-filing website’s performance.

Social Media flooded with the hashtag “#Extend Due Date Immediately”. This hashtag has been used in more than 25,000 tweets on social media site so far. Tax experts and numerous other taxpayers have been pleading with the government to postpone ITR filing deadline. As the Last Date for Filing Income Tax Return reached.

“Over 4.5 crore ITRs filed till 29th July, 2022 & more than 36 lakh ITRs filed on 28th July, 2022 itself”, according to the most recent data.

Taxpayers have been complaining about the errors they encountered when filing their income tax forms because they claimed that the site was broken. They have also tagged the accounts of the Income Tax Department, the Central Board of Direct Taxes, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman among others to request the extension using trending hashtags throughout Twitter.

People are Continuously tweeting on social media to showing rage as income tax portal is not properly working which is designed for. Since the deadline of ITR Filing come close. Now, Only a day is left as of tomorrow.

As of now, there is no Announcement for the Extension. CBDT has not yet Extended ITR Filing Due date. Tomorrow is the last hope for the extension as tomorrow i.e 31st July 2022 is the last date to file ITR.
