Job Scam: Man lost Rs.1.1 lakh in Online Job Fraud

A man lost Rs. 1.1 lakh through an alleged part-time online job fraud. While viewing Facebook videos, the complainant came across an advertisement promoting “work from home for extra income,” which included a WhatsApp link.

After clicking the link, he connected with people who offered him part-time work with earnings ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 8,000 per day.

To proceed, the complainant was urged to create an Amazon ID and deposit Rs 80. He was then prompted to recharge Rs.120 on the website, which he did through Google Pay.

The suspected scammers deposited Rs 300, and the victim had to share his bank credentials with an ID on the Telegram app in order to withdraw that sum. He was able to successfully withdraw Rs. 300.

The fraud apparently continued as the victim was asked to provide Rs. 500, Rs. 400, Rs. 1,000, and Rs. 1,200 for various duties. Between January 4 and 6, the complainant allegedly completed tasks and deposited Rs. 1.1 lakh in phases from his bank accounts to the fraudsters.

A case has been filed with the Kankanady Town police station.
