The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) has successfully presented its report on the Corporate Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the lower house of Parliament, Lok Sabha.

The report was presented on August 03, 2026, by the Committee’s Chairperson, Shri Sudhir Gupta, MP. The draft version of the report was considered and adopted by the panel on July 03, 2026.

The aforementioned committee came into effect after the introduction of the Bill by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on March 23, 2026, and consists of a total of 24 members (21 from the Lok Sabha and 3 from the Rajya Sabha).

As mentioned above, the Corporate Laws (Amendment) Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 23, 2026, and on the same day the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs suggested handing over the bill to the Joint Parliamentary Committee for comprehensive examination. On the subsequent day, March 24, 2026, the Rajya Sabha agreed to this suggestion.

Initially, the committee was asked to submit a report on the bill by the end of the first week of the 2026 Monsoon Session; however, later on, this time limit was further extended on the request of the committee. The extension was officially approved on July 22, 2026, granting the committee a time limit till the last day of the 2026 Monsoon Session to submit its final report on the bill.

The key objective of the bill is to make corporate legal procedures easier to understand, reduce compliance burdens, and reinforce corporate governance in accordance with the Report of the Company Law Committee (CLC) and amendments introduced to the Companies Act, 2013, in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
