Ludhiana based Chartered Accountant arrest by Vigilance Bureau for taking Rs.26 Lakh Bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Ankush Sareen, a chartered accountant (CA) from Ludhiana, for accepting a bribe of Rs 26 lakh from a man in the name of income tax officers located in Chandigarh.

According to a VB spokesperson, an inquiry into an online complaint filed at the chief minister’s anti-corruption action line resulted in the filing of a case against Sareen, who practises privately.

He stated that complainant Parminder Singh Sidhu, a resident of Malsian village in the Ludhiana district, had claimed that Sareen had taken Rs.26 lakh in two installments for bribing income tax officers in lieu of settling a notice served on his relatives in the United States regarding an income tax return.

The complainant claimed that on January 15, he handed over Rs.25 lakh in cash to the CA at his home and videotaped the act. On January 26, CA Ankush Sareen obtained Rs 1 lakh more from the complainant for “junior officers of the income tax department.”

During an investigation by the I-T department, the complainant discovered that the I-T department’s notice had not been responded to, and he noticed that said CA had taken a bribe fraudulently in the name of income tax officers by threatening him with heavy penalties. He did not return his money when he requested the CA to.

According to the spokesperson, the VB section of the Ludhiana range investigated the allegations in the complaint and filed a corruption case against the CA at the VB police station Ludhiana after finding him guilty of accepting bribe. He stated that further investigation into this matter was ongoing.
