Madras HC comes down heavily on Election Commission for allowing the conduct of Election rallies amid COVID
Madras High Court has questioned the Election Commission of India for allowing political rallies during COVID. Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee goes to the extent of saying "Election Commission officers should be booked on murder charges probably".
Further, the court said "Your institution is singularly responsible for the second wave of COVID-19", Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee tells the Election Commission of India.
"Public health is of paramount importance and it is distressing that constitutional authorities have to be reminded in such regard. It is only when a citizen survives that he'll be able to enjoy the rights that a democratic republic guarantees", Chief Justice tells ECI.
