Massive GST Land Scam Uncovered: 50 Officers Linked to Builder in Mohanlalganj An ongoing investigation has uncovered a major scandal involving nearly 50 officers from the State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department, who are suspected of buying land worth billions of rupees. According to initial findings, over Rs. 200 crore has been invested in land (both registered and unregistered), largely through a well-known builder operating in the Mohanlalganj area. So far, land valued in crores has been traced to 11 officers. The case has now caught the government’s attention after a preliminary inspection confirmed the authenticity of the complaints. Authorities have ordered a detailed investigation and collected copies of the land registration documents from the registry office.

Sources reveal that many of the implicated officers previously worked in the Flying Squad and Special Investigation Team- divisions known for handling sensitive financial cases. These officers reportedly invested large sums in the builder’s projects while being posted in key districts such as Ghaziabad, Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Moradabad, and Meerut. Records show that land holdings connected to the officials have surfaced across 10 districts, including Saharanpur, Lucknow, Azamgarh, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mirzapur, and Kanpur. The list of those under inquiry includes assistant commissioners, deputy commissioners, joint commissioners, and additional commissioners. According to sources, the COVID-19 pandemic became a turning point for many of these officers. With transfers on hold, several officials continued in their posts for up to five years, allowing them to accumulate significant wealth. Reports suggests that the surplus money eventually became difficult to hide, leading some to invest heavily in land through the Mohanlalganj builder.

It has also been reported that this builder shares a personal connection with a senior departmental officer, which allegedly helped him gain access and influence within the system. Using this connection encouraged the officers to channel their wealth into real estate projects. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are expected to take further action as more details about the officers’ financial dealings come to light.
