But have you heard that reading newspaper can turn you into an entrepreneur and make you rich? Yes, you read it right, this is a true story about a Chaiwala who turned entrepreneur after getting ideas from the newspaper. His success story is an inspiration to many. This inspirational story is about Ajay Swami, a chaiwala-turned-entrepreneur.

Ajay Swamy hails from Parlika village in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. While reading the newspaper, he had a simple thought that transformed his life. He became interested in aloe vera cultivation after reading about it in news articles. He was running a tea stall in Rajasthan after his father’s sudden death, but he wanted to improve his financial situation so that he could support his family. Despite having no prior agricultural experience, he decided to use two bighas of property he received from his father for aloe vera farming.

Life Details of Ajay Swamy

Ajay Swamy hailed from a financially weak family. He belongs from Rajasthan, India. His father passed away at an early age while he was still in school. To help his family he left his studies after passing class 8th and started working as a tea staller, commonly known as Chaiwala in India. He started selling tea in 1999. He used to sell tea at Rs 10 a cup. Before starting aloe vera farming, Ajay had no knowledge of agriculture. His tea business was profitable but he knew to live a better life, he needed to do something big.

Ajay Swamy’s Entrepreneurial Journey

Having his ancestral two bighas of land in possession, he constantly considered that he should not let such a good piece of property go to waste and should instead honor his late father by making use of the place. While reading the newspaper, he thought of aloe vera farming, which was completely novel to him. Ajay began by researching aloe vera farming on the internet and speaking with farmers who were knowledgeable about its farming. He learned that aloe vera farming doesn’t require plenty of water. Seeing the geographical conditions in his favor (Rajasthan receives less rainfall), he finally decided to go with the plan. He bought a few aloe vera plants from another town named Churu and used fertilizers to assure their growth. After one and half years, he harvested the fully-grown aloe vera crop. Being an unusual crop, finding its buyer was not easy for Ajay.

Due to the volatile nature of the farming business, Ajay continued his tea stall side-by-side. To overcome the obstacle of the aloe vera sale, Ajay decided to make aloe vera byproducts, beginning with aloe vera juice. As the demand for his products increased, he shut down his tea business in 2022 to focus only on aloe vera cultivation. To diversify his aloe vera products he learned to make various aloe vera products at Krishi Vigyan Kendra. At Krishi Vigyan Kendra, he learned how to create aloe vera soaps, shampoos, lotions, sweets, and his best-selling product, aloe vera laddu (his best product). His aloe vera laddu is sold at Rs 350 per kg.

The Success of Ajay’s Venture

Ajay Swamy’s selection of the aloe vera plant for farming proved to be the right strategy for his success. Aloe vera can be grown at a reasonable price even in sandy conditions. One bigha of land can grow 800 aloe vera plants, providing a good harvest and return on investment. Aloe vera is also known for its health benefits, so people like to consume its products for health purposes.

Ajay established a processing plant on his property and launched his brand. His company now sells 45 distinct aloe vera products and has a yearly revenue of more than 10 lakhs. His success story demonstrates that an idea can change one’s life and that anyone can achieve their goals with persistence and hard effort.
