Supreme Court declines to end NEET UG counselling once more

On Thursday, the Supreme Court once more rejected a stay of the NEET UG counselling. The court has declared that counselling will also be cancelled in the event that the exam is postponed beyond the final hearing.

The Supreme Court had turned down this appeal earlier on 11th June 2024. The Supreme Court also considered a fresh petition today that called for the cancellation of the examination. Student Federation of India (SFI) and 49 other students filed this petition. The following hearing on this matter is scheduled for 8th July 2024.

The petitioners have requested that all students who received a score higher than 620 on the exam have their backgrounds checked and their cases forensically investigated. A CBI investigation into the claimed paper leak has also been demanded at the same time.

In addition, the petitions submitted in the Rajasthan, Calcutta, and Bombay High Courts’ NEET UG matter have been consolidated by the Supreme Court. On 8th July 2024, the Supreme Court will hear these cases. This requirement had been made by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This matter is being heard by the Supreme Court’s vacation bench, which consists of Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti.

Nine days ago, the request for Counselling was also turned down

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court declined to keep the NEET Counseling in place. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers the exam, received a notification from the Supreme Court bench indicating that the validity of NEET UG had been called into question. This needs an answer, please.

Shivangi Mishra and nine other students filed this petition on 1st June 2024, prior to the results being announced. In this, a demand was made to cancel the exam and launch a SIT inquiry, citing irregularities brought about by the distribution of incorrect question papers at the exam venues in Rajasthan and Bihar.
