UGC NET 2024: Why UGC NET 2024 Exam Cancelled by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan?

The Union education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, stated at a news conference yesterday i.e., 20th June 2024, that the University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) question paper 2024 was leaked on Darknet. India’s Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), which was founded to combat cybercrime nationwide, provided advice on the UGC NET paper leak 2024. Exam takers of 9.08 lakh  (approx.) will be impacted by the decision to cancel the UGC NET 2024.

On 18th June 2024, the UGC NET June 2024 session took place, using an OMR-based methodology to select PhD scholars, assistant professors, and junior research fellows. A day later, the ministry announced that the exam was cancelled due to reports suggesting that it “may be compromised.” 9.08 lakh applicants took the exam in 317 exam cities out of the 11,21,225 candidates who enrolled.

The UGC NET has been administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) beginning December 2018. The testing company came under heavy fire for the exams’ lack of transparency. Student organizations and political figures around the country have protested against the UGC NET cancellation, which follows the NEET debacle.

The education minister claimed, “There is a specific question paper available on the Darknet,” in response to criticism. I4C, a famous organization in the home ministry, provided this input. We concluded that this was a case of paper leakage after comparing the document with our initial question paper.” He also announced the formation of a high-level group to examine how NTA operates.

“I’m not sure if I’m giving you any useful information. We are accepting the responsibilities with pain. We must make systemic corrections. We must announce the dates very quickly,” he remarked.

The official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in and nta.ac.in, will shortly reveal the 2024 dates for the UGC NET fresh exam, according to information released earlier yesterday by Ministry of Education Joint Secretary Govind Jaiswal.
