Monsoon Disruptions Trigger Nationwide Appeal for ITR Filing Deadline Extension, ITR Utilities Lately Released Several states in India, like Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Delhi, Mumbai, Chhattisgarh and Others, are nowadays facing severe flooding and also heavy monsoon rains. In Punjab, as of now, a total of 29 individuals have lost their lives due to devastating floods; the maximum deaths have taken place in the Pathankot district, and 2.56 lakh individuals have been impacted in one month, starting from August 01, 2025. On Sunday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that Punjab is facing one of the worst floods in decades. Around 1,000 villages and lakhs of people have been affected so far. In his letter, he urged the PM to release the Rs. 60,000 crore state fund. These adverse conditions in Punjab are due to the swollen Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers, along with smaller streams, which have overflowed. Releasing excess water through dams has caused extensive flooding in seven districts, including Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Pathankot, Ferozepur, and Hoshiarpur.
ITR Filing 2025: Know These Key Steps to File ITR Correctly
Like Punjab, there are several states suffering from the same situation due to adverse weather conditions these days. On the basis of humanitarian sentiments due to the devastation caused by rain and floods in several Indian states, many users at Platform 'X' have urged the Income Tax Department to immediately extend the due date for filing ITR (Income Tax Return). It would be in the public interest and national interest. A chartered accountant (CA) named Anupam Sharma wrote to the Ministry of Finance and CBDT on Platform 'X' that the devastating effects of heavy rains and floods have made the task of filing ITR difficult for taxpayers residing in affected states due to a lack of proper connectivity and the late availability of ITR forms. This is making them distressed. Therefore, the department requests to understand their struggles and extend the deadline for filing ITR to September 30, 2025, and for Tax Audit to November 30, 2025. It was a time when taxpayers needed support from the department.
New Income Tax Rules 2025: Easier Forms and Digital-First Compliance Effective April 2026
Another chartered accountant (CA) named Anil Kr Yadav at Platform 'X' requested an ITR deadline extension till December 31, 2025, as heavy rain and flood conditions in different parts of the country are causing difficulties for taxpayers and professionals to comply with tax rules. Besides all these, in this financial year 2024-25, taxpayers were made available with Income Tax Return (ITR) forms and Tax Audit utilities late by around three months. These delays have significantly disrupted the compliance process. CA Chirag Chauhan said on Platform 'X', "Many parts of India are facing severe flooding, heavy monsoon & cloud bursts. The Income Tax Department should immediately extend the due date to file ITRs & Tax Audit reports."
