MP P.P. Chaudhary Urges FM Nirmala Sitharaman to Extend Tax Audit Due Date to October 31:

The Honourable MP (Member of Parliament) Shri P.P. Chaudhary has forwarded a representation to the Honourable Minister of Finance, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, urging her to extend the due date for filing the Tax Audit Report (TAR) for the Assessment Year 2026-27 (Financial Year 2025-26), from September 30 to October 31, 2026, citing genuine practical difficulties faced by taxpayers and tax professionals arising from the compressed time limit for tax audit compliance.

The move to extend the Income Tax Returns (ITRs) due date for non-audit cases from July 31 to August 31 has left the taxpayers with only one month to furnish tax audit reports (TARs).

"The progressive release and subsequent updates of income-tax utilities, extensive reconciliation and verification required for tax audits, revised financial-statement requirements, and the simultaneous burden of GST, TDS/TCS and other statutory compliances have further constrained the effective time available for completing audits," MP Shri P.P. Chaudhary highlighted in the representation.

Accordingly, the MP requested the finance minister to consider this representation seriously and extend the due date for filing TAR for AY 2026-27 to October 31, 2026, in exercise of its powers granted under Section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
