NASA HARC 2023: The NASA Rover Challenge 2023 will start next week at the agency’s space and rocket center in Huntsville, Alabama, USA, and this year a total of 6 students from across India have been selected to participate in the NASA Rover Challenge. All the students selected to participate in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge 2023 are from the age group of 14 to 18 years and belongs to remote villages, children’s home, and other cities across India.

The students will travel to the United States next week. The journey will be guided by the Odisha-based Young Tinker Educational Foundation (formerly Navonmesh Prasar Foundation). NASA announced in October 2022 that Young Tinker Educational Foundation was one of 61 teams chosen to participate in the 2023 Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC) on the 20th and 22nd of April at the United States Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

About the Challenge: NASA HERC

Every year, the NASA organizes Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC), a worldwide engineering design competition for students. The HERC is inspired by the Apollo and Artemis space missions, in which the focus is on designing, building, testing, and demonstrating the ability of their innovations to travel through various environmental terrains. NASA announced in October 2022 that “Young Tinker Educational Foundation” was one of 61 teams chosen to participate in the 2023 Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC)

Young Tinker Educational Foundation: The foundation has chosen six students between the ages of 14 and 19 for NASA HERC 2023. Students were divided into sub-teams and assigned responsibilities such as Design Lead, Prototyping Lead, Safety Officer, Communication Lead, Tech Lead, and Manufacturing Lead. The team then began with the proposed rover’s CAD (Computer Aided Design) and material testing. The rover manufacturing procedure began in the Young Tinker Educational Foundation campuses once the design and materials were finalized.
