NEET Controversy 2024: Recall of NEET UG Result and Re-Examination is Sought in a Supreme Court Petition
There has been a petition filed in the Supreme Court to recall the NEET-UG 2024 results and hold a new examination, citing major disparities in the recently announced results of the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) for the Under Graduate medical course admissions.
According to the applicants, grace marks were awarded arbitrarily. High scores of 718 and 719 out of 720 obtained by a few Students were argued to be “statistically impossible” in this respect.
It’s believed that the National Testing Agency’s grace mark awarding, allegedly for tardiness during the exam, was a dishonest attempt to provide “backdoor entry” to specified Students.
The petitioners also expressed concern over the fact that 67 Students from a certain centre received all 720 points. It is also mentioned that the National Testing Agency’s interim answer key, which was released on 29th April 2024, has been the subject of multiple complaints.
The petitioners also mentioned the extensive grievances regarding the exam question leak from 5th May 2024. The Supreme Court has already received two applications asking for the test to be cancelled due to paper leaks. The Supreme Court refused to suspend the results announcement on 17th May 2024 despite having given notice on one of these petitions.
Two inhabitants of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Abdullah Mohammed Faiz and Dr Shaik Roshan Mohiddin, have filed the current petition. The petitioners say they are representing students and are affiliated with SIO.
The petitioners also ask for a postponement of the counselling for NEET-UG 2024 admissions until the inquiry into the purported paper leak is finished. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is also to be established in order to look into the purported irregularities in the exam’s administration.
A four-member committee will be formed to examine the outcomes of more than 1,500 applicants who received “grace marks” as compensation for the “loss of time suffered while appearing for this year’s NEET (Undergraduate) exam,” according to announcements made on 8th June 2024, by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Education Ministry.
The National Testing Agency was recently asked to respond to a plea alleging irregularities in the exam’s conduct by the Calcutta High Court.
The petitioner, AOR Shwetank Sailakwal, submitted it.
