NEET-UG 2024 Row: SC Directs NTA to Declare Centre-Wise Result of NEET UG While Masking Candidate’s Identity
NEET-UG 2024: The Supreme Court on Thursday, directed the National Testing Agency, NTA to the centre and city-wise results of NEET-UG 2024 while masking the identities of candidates by 12 noon of July 20, 2024. The NEET UG 2024 results are expected to be declared on July 20, 2024, by 12 PM. The Supreme Court has clarified that it will resume hearing pleas related to the NEET-UG 2024 controversies on July 22, 2024. The Court also discussed NTA’s hypothesis, that the question paper was leaked, solved and memorized in just 45 minutes. This time the court is hearing a bench of Petitions alleging paper leak and malpractice in the NEET-UG 2024 exam that was conducted on May 5, 2024. Today (July 19, 2024) the case is hearing by the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra. On July 22, 2024, the Supreme Court will resume further arguments on the batch of pleas requesting cancellation of NEET UG, retest and allegations of large-scale malpractices held in the NEET UG on May 5, 2024.’
In the Supreme Court hearing held on Thursday, the lawyer said that the syllabus for NEET UG held on May 5, 2024, was increased and changes were notified into the syllabus just a few months before the exam. The question paper transportation was compromised in Hazaribag. Questions were raised on social media (Telegram) regarding the NEET UG question paper leak, the bench said, “You have to bear in mind that the idea of somebody doing this was not to make a national charade. People did it for money. So, it was not to bring disrepute to the exam and somebody was doing it to make money which is evident. Mass leakage requires contacts also at that level so that you connect to all such key contacts in different cities.” “The CBI probe is on. If what the CBI has told us is revealed, it will affect the investigation and people will become wise.”
The CJI said, “Re-examination has to be on concrete footing that the sanctity of the entire test was affected,”
The bench is hearing more than 40 pleas regarding the NEET UG 2024 allegations, including the fields by NTA. On July 11, 2024, the hearing of the appeals, which included requests for a retest, the cancellation of NEET-UG 2024, and an investigation into purported malpractices, was postponed by the top court to July 18 to allow for the receipt of responses from the NTA and the Center by certain parties.
This year the NEET UG exam was held on May 5, 2024, and a total of 23.33 lakh candidates were present. The exam was conducted across 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 overseas. The Center and the NTA had stated in their prior apex court papers that, in the absence of any evidence of a widespread breach of confidentially, eliminating the exam would be “counterproductive” and “seriously jeopardize” lakhs of honest candidates.
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) is organised for admissions into the government and private institutions across the country in the MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses.
