New Income Tax Rules Implemented; Know These Tips to Save Time
The Income Tax Act, 2025, has come into effect from April 1, 2026, replacing the old 1961 law. To align better with the new law, the government also introduced the Income Tax Rules 2026. These rules aim to make the filing simpler and easier.
New changes have been made to the Income Tax Portal. These changes make the tax filing easier as the system has been upgraded. But taxpayers need to be more careful with the new changes, as even a small mistake can cause issues.
Tax Payment Made Easier
Taxpayers do not need to navigate to different locations to pay their taxes. Tax payments can be easily made through the ‘e-Pay Tax’ feature under both the old and new tax regimes. Taxpayers have several modes to pay the tax, including debit cards, net banking, and UPI. The system helps you choose the correct invoice, removing any chances for error.
Check Payment Status
After filing your taxes, make sure you check its status via the ‘Know Tax Payment Status‘ link. By submitting your PAN and 14-digit challan number, you can check whether the government has received your payment. Taxpayers must also make sure their PAN and Aadhaar are linked. If not, taxpayers will not be able to file their returns. Therefore, check the ‘Link Aadhaar’ status.
Get PAN Instantly
If you have not obtained a PAN card and you need it urgently, then you can access the “Instant e-PAN” feature available on the Income Tax portal. You can easily generate your e-PAN with the help of Aadhaar and a mobile number registered with your Aadhaar. This process involves no paperwork and is completely free. Your PAN will be ready in PDF Format, which is valid as a physical card.
Don’t Forget This Important Step in Filing
If you think that you are done after filing your return, then you are forgetting a most important part of the filing. Your ITR is incomplete until you ‘e-verify’ it. You must first verify it using your Aadhaar OTP by clicking on the ‘e-Verify Return’ link. If you verify your return, it will be considered invalid or “not filed”.
