NIRF 2024 Rankings: NIRF 2024 Rankings Announced at nirfindia.org The Ministry of Education announced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 on (Monday) August 12, 2024, at 3 pm. Candidates can access the NIRF 2024 ranking on the official website, nirfindia.org. The official announcement of the NIRF 2024 ranking declaration was done by the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during an online event. UGC has also informed the date for the release of the NIRF 2024 ranking on Twitter stating, "The rankings for higher education institutions under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), 2024 will be announced on 12th August, 2024. Through NIRF 2024 ranking institutions from all over India will be ranked based on various categories that will include, overall universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, and innovation. The official notification says, "This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations and broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception.” The National Institutional Ranking Framework or NIRF is a ranking done at the national level, introduced by the Ministry of Education. It was made to categorize the Higher Education Institutions in the country based on various aspects. The NIRF ranking came in the year 2025. If we talk about the previous year, the "Innovation" category institutions were ranked under the ranking list, whereas institutions in the "Agriculture and Allied Sectors" and "Research Institutions" categories were added to the previous year's list. The previous year, 2023, IIT Madras- Indian Institute of Madras came at the first position of all the top "overall" category institutions. The IIT Madras has continuously achieved first rank for the past 5 years continuously. Also, it has been the first rank in the "Engineering" category for the past eight years and has ranked with the title of "second-best research institute in the country. " Last year, IIT Delhi was ranked in 3rd position under the "Universities" category. On the same list, IIIT Bangalore was at the first rank and Jawaharlal Nehru University gained the second rank. In the category of "Colleges", Miranda House achieved the first position, Hindu College second and Presidency College, Chennai achieved the third rank. In the category of "Engineering" IIT Madras was ranked first, IIT Delhi second and IIT Bombay third.
