No change in Existing Currency and Banknotes RBI Clarifies
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) confirmed on Monday that it is not considering replacing Mahatma Gandhi’s visage with that of others on existing money and banknotes.
The Reserve Bank of India said there have been claims in some sections of the media that the Reserve Bank of India is considering replacing Mahatma Gandhi’s visage with that of others on existing currency and banknotes.
On all denominations of Indian currency notes, the watermark figure of the Father of the Nation takes pride of position.
Earlier rumours suggested that Rabindranath Tagore and India’s 11th President, APJ Abdul Kalam, were competing with Gandhi for a spot on the country’s banknotes.

There are reports in certain sections of the media that the Reserve Bank of India is considering changes to the existing currency and banknotes by replacing the face of Mahatma Gandhi with that of others. It may be noted that there is no such proposal in the Reserve Bank.
