No E-Pass Mandatory For Advocates when travelling during the curfew "No authority shall stop any Advocate in the NCT of Delhi if he/she provides genuine Identity Card wherein he/she may establish that he/she is an Advocate," the Delhi High Court said today. A petition asking the respondent Delhi Police to comply with the curfew decision dated 19.04.2021 exempting Advocates from producing E-pass for travel during the curfew period was dismissed by a single judge bench led by Justice Suresh Kait. Advocate Dharmendra Kumar filed the current petition, alleging that the respondent harassed him because he did not have an E-pass when travelling during the curfew. Advocates are excused from having such a pass for travel during the curfew period, according to a curfew order dated April 19, 2021. The respondent Delhi Police claimed that the petitioner was not harassed and that he was released after producing an I Card. The Court ruled that police cannot detain anyone who can show a legitimate ID showing his status as an attorney. The court went on to say that the current order must be delivered to the commissioner of police, who will then deliver it to the DCP, who would then provide it to all police personnel.
