No GST Dues Pending: States have not submitted AG’s Certificate

The Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply to a question raised in Rajya Sabha said, “No GST Dues Pending, as Some States have not submitted AG’s Certificate.”

She said that on the question of GST Compensation, it is important to understand that if the State AG’s certificates don’t reach us, we can’t clear the dues. When the AG’s certificate reaches us, some states tell us ‘Hold on till we tell you to clear it’.

She further added, “I want to specifically name the states so that there are no doubts in the minds of the people here. Kerala sent the AG’s certificate but also told us to hold on till they reconcile some numbers with the AGs themselves. AG’s certificate has not been received as yet from Goa for 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2021-22 and Q1 of 2022-23. For Q1 of 2022-23, except for Karnataka, no state has given the AG’s certificate to us as yet. AG’s certificate has not come from West Bengal, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22 and Q1 of 2022-23 and hence amount is not released. So, to call it pending from our side is a misnomer.”
