No Proposal to Tax Agriculture Income: Budget Session
In response to a query posed in the Parliament on February 13, the Ministry of Finance stated that there is no proposal to tax agricultural income in India.
Pankaj Chaudhary, a minister of state for finance, has further noted that no committee has been established to look into this matter in the last five years.
The tax on agricultural income is included in the State List under Article 246 of the Indian Constitution.
The matter was brought up in Parliament after Bibek Debroy, the chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, claimed in an opinion piece on January 21 that it is improper for Indian governments to not tax agricultural income.
