Patiala GST Records Impressive Growth Rate Of 40%
The minister Harpal Singh Cheema recently organised a quarterly meeting of the department where he said "the Patiala division was followed by the Ropar division with 34.97% and the Amritsar division with 30.26%".
He added that the Patiala goods and services tax division has recorded an impressive 40% growth rate in GST collection during the first quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year. Surpassing all the other divisions in Punjab, the Patiala GST has achieved an increasing growth rate.
The minister who organised the meeting of the department said the Patiala division was followed by the Ropar division with 34.97% and the Amritsar division with 30.26%. Ludhiana division registered the highest gross GST collection across the state, bringing in Rs 1,998.76 crore.
In the first quarter, Rs 1,315.66 crore was collected by Ropar division, Rs 687.19 crore by Amritsar division, and Rs 679 crore by Patiala division. He also added that the department has also met its excise revenue targets, supported by intensified enforcement efforts that have effectively restrained the illicit/illegal liquor trade.
At the time of the meeting, Cheema also reviewed the GST and VAT arrears status. He also encouraged the department officers to adopt innovative strategies for their recovery. He reviewed in depth the performance of both the enforcement wings, which are the excise and taxation departments. Discussions target the State Intelligence and Preventive Unit's (SIPU) efforts to restrain tax evasion.
Chief secretary-cum-financial commissioner, excise, Dhirendra Kumar Tiwari; taxation secretary Ajit Balaji Joshi; and excise and taxation commissioner Jitendra Jorwal were also present in the meeting.
