Former SBI Branch Manager Convicted in Bribery Case, Sentenced to 4 Years in Jail

Former SBI branch manager Ajay Kumar Gaur has been sentenced to four years in prison and fined Rs 90,000 in a bribery case involving a Rs 10 lakh personal loan.

The CBI Court in Lucknow on August 24, 2026, convicted former State Bank of India (SBI) Branch Manager Ajay Kumar Gaur in a case involving illegal gratification. The court sentenced him to four years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs. 90,000.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the case on February 26, 2018, following a complaint against Gaur, who was then posted as Branch Manager at SBI’s Shahupuri Branch in Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the CBI, Gaur had demanded illegal gratification of Rs. 50,000 from the complainant for sanctioning and releasing a personal loan of Rs. 10 lakh. The amount was allegedly demanded at the rate of 5% of the loan amount.

The CBI laid a trap and caught Gaur red-handed while he was demanding and accepting Rs. 40,000 from the complainant as illegal gratification.

After completing its investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Gaur on April 27, 2018. The court framed charges against him on January 9, 2019.

After hearing the case and examining the evidence during the trial, the court found Gaur guilty and sentenced him to four years’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 90,000.
