PMJJBY Covers Over 26.7 Crore Beneficiaries in 5 Years; Claim Settlement Ratio Records at 99.95%

The Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, has informed that the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) has covered 26,79,81,084 beneficiaries over the last five years, with 12,55,58,532 active policies as of 18.02.2026.

Over the last five years, the scheme received 10,75,337 claims, out of which 10,41,853 were approved and 32,893 were rejected. Since the implementation of this scheme, the claim settlement ratio under the scheme stands at 99.95% as of 18.2.2026.

The minister also explained the measures taken by the government to increase enrollment and make sure the benefits of the scheme are timely disbursed.

According to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), the time taken for settling claims varies between 0.61 days and 17 days, depending on the insurer.

To prevent the policy from lapsing, the Department of Financial Services releases an annual action plan before the renewal cycle. The latest plan was shared on May 13, 2025, with all banks, post offices, insurance companies, and the Life Insurance Council.

The government also conducted regular campaigns at a grassroots level to increase the coverage under PMJJBY and PMSBY. Banks and local administration actively participated in it. A four-month “Financial Inclusion Saturation Campaign” was organised by the government all over the country. These campaigns included enrollment camps, helping the individuals to register for PMJJBY and PMSBY on the spot.

Additionally, the government also designed a portal called the Jansuraksha Portal, which gives access to social security through end-to-end digitized journeys. The portal hosts information regarding the enrollment forms, rules, etc., in English, Hindi, and regional languages and onboards all 12 public sector banks, 28 regional rural banks, and 13 insurers.
